Erected on the southeast corner of Front and Cromwell Sts. in 1892-93 by Messrs. Hand and Ryder. I have read somewhere (??) that shortly after opening, a large sign was placed on the sidewalk announcing the new hostlrey with 'Holder, Hand and Ryder (yikes!!) Proprietors.' Whether or not that's true, I am as yet uncertain. Very heavily damaged in the tornado of 1953, it was rebuilt but retained none of its architectural ornamentation. It was pulled down for parking in 1979. Attachments:
