The Talfourd cottage, erected by Froome Talfourd c1855 just north of Russell's Lane. At that time Front St. extended north only to Russell's Lane (now Derby Lane). In 1875, in order to open up Front St. to the north, the cottage was moved to the east side of the new street where it stood until summer of 1945. In June of that year it was moved to East St, getting stuck for several days at the corner of Exmouth and East Sts. when the weight of the house and truck proved too much for the road. The stairway to the 'widows walk' was concealed in a cupboard.
