Built in 1848 on the north side of London Road approx. where the Our Lady of Mercy Parish Hall stands on land donated for that purpose by Richard Vidal, it was originally named St. Paul's, with the name being changed c1850 to St. George's. The organ used in the church was one recovered from a sunken vessel. The original manse, which also stood on London Rd., survives today but has been relocated to the east side of Brock St., just south of London Rd. After the present church opened in 1884 and the old one was pulled down, the lot was put up for sale by the diocese, resulting in a lawsuit by the Vidal family claiming that the land should revert back to them. The court decided that since the land had been donated to the Anglican diocese, it was theirs to dispense with as they saw fit, and the Vidal's had no claim to the land. Attachments:
