Central Methodist Church (built 1882) at the northeast corner of Brock and George Streets. Interior of sanctuary decorated in black drapery in commemoration of the death of Queen Victoria in 1901. Note the white ribbon on the Queen's photograph, an appropriate symbol of death among Protestants at this time. (Consider the fact that a white wedding gown would never have adorned a Methodist or Presbyterian bride in this era -- that was a tradition adopted later in the 20th century.) The chancel area of the church is mostly unchanged (as of Mar. 2013). The church's historic Casavant pipe organ (built by the world renowned organ-building firm of Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec) was installed in 1897 (with major additions in 1930, and an electronic console installed in 1998). It is Lambton County's finest heritage organ and is still maintained in excellent tune. (photo credit: Central United Church) Attachments:
