Previous to 1882, the students of this section went to S.S. No.5. The real history of S.S. No.17 centres around two school houses referred to as the “old school” and the “new school”. The first school was a fair sized frame structure built on the west side of Lot 6, Con.12m about the year 1882. In 1904, with the old school out of repair, the ratepayers decided to build a new school and sold the old building. It served as an Anglican Church before burning down in 1906. A dispute arose concerning the site for the new building, but it was settled by arbitration, and a neat white brick building was erected on the eventual site, lot 5, Concession 12, some sixty rods (990 feet, or 302 metres) west of the old site.
