Here is the Petrolia refinery district, lying north of Petrolia's downtown, along Centre St. The image is a composite of 3 sheets of the Petrolia 1898 fire insurance plan. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time this plan has been posted anywhere. The main feature is the large Imperial Oil Company refinery. Two months after this plan was produced, Standard Oil would purchase IOC and begin to dismantle the Petrolia plant and move it to Sarnia. Also, seen is Stevenson's Boiler & Engine Works and the National Oil Company refinery. Enjoy! Library and Archives Canada
