This church is the first building of the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wyoming. The congregation was established in 1865 and grew out of South Plympton Presbyterian Church, ("the little red church on the corner") located one mile east of the village on Confederation Line. In 1866, the congregation moved to Wyoming. In 1869, its first church (the one pictured) was constructed and opened for worship on Oct. 10, 1869. In 1929, the congregation replaced the frame structure with its present red-brown brick building. The name "St. Andrew's" was adopted when the 1929 church opened. The building pictured was located immediately east of the present building on Main Street. The large field to the east of the present church is where the original building stood. When the new church was built, a few of the original furnishings were transferred to the new church. The stained glass window in the north wall of the old church was removed and installed in the choir loft of the new church (which also faces north). The original centre panel was affixed to two adjoining side stained glass panels so that it would suit the architect's design for windows in the 1929 church. The box pews in the balcony date from the original 1869 church. The tongue and groove ceiling of the present church were milled from wood harvested from a local Minielly family farm. The old church (the one pictured) was sold and was moved away from the church property on Nov. 6, 1930. This congregation will close out its 147-year ministry when it formally dissolves this year (tentatively set for May, 2013). In terms of a village church, the present building (not pictured) is arguably one of Lambton's most beautiful. Sneak a peak before it closes! Sunday worship service is 11 a.m. You would be welcome for the worship service or for a tour immediately after worship. I can't believe the church is closing! This was where I attended Sunday School as a child. About the original church; it still exists, incorporated into what at the time was the McKay furniture store on Broadway St. You can still see the peak rising above the current facade on the north end of the building. Here are links to Google Street Views showing it: Original Wyoming Pres. Church (front)Original Wyoming Pres. Church (rear)
