Here's another idea I've been working on for over 2 years and I'm finally ready to introduce it to the local history community...
The Lambton County Historical Chronology is essentially a database of historic Lambton events. What makes it different and infinitely more valuable and powerful than previous data compiling methods such as printed (ie, static) chronologies, or time-lines, is:
All this functionality has been made possible by yet another Google App. This time, by Google Docs' Spreadsheet application. The app allows anyone to create a spreadsheet and a form to enter data into it. You can then embed the form in a webpage and share access and editing privileges with anyone you choose.
Pretty cool, eh?
Ok, so the LCHC , or Chronology, for short, may not seem as interesting, or appealing, to the general public as old photos, 3D models, or stories about Lambton's pioneers, but it does have the potential to become a very powerful tool for documenting and researching past historic events.
By bringing together related references to historic events from disparate and far flung sources and through the ability to filter and sort those entries, the LCHC can reveal connections not otherwise easily made and thus, enrich our understanding of Lambton's history.
I hope you'll find viewing and contributing to the Chronology a rewarding experience...

- it is always online and available to anyone, anytime
- any column of the Chronology can be sorted alpha-numerically, or filtered to show only the entries desired
- anyone can contribute an entry to it, anytime
- the form used to contribute entries can be shared and/or embedded in any webpage, or e-mail.
