My name is Paul Whistlecraft. My wife and I have only lived in Forest since early 2020 but we really like living here. I just recently got involved with some folks at the Forest Museum and we have started a project to build some models of the buildings that were here in Forest in the mid-1950s, along with an HO scale representation of the railway that passed through town back then. We're looking for photos, maps, etc. to help us with our replication.

This house will stay standing until it caves in on itself I bet. I'm so curious what it looks like inside. Although if it wasn't wrecked too bad before the chimney fell, if nobody covered up the hole, ever rainfall/snow there is water pouring into into it. If I ever won the lottery, in confront the owners. But it would take alot of money to fix that place. Out of all the abandoned stuff you see around here online I am shocked there isn't much about this gem.

The Alexandria Apartments were owned by my father and his partner when I was a small boy. I use to be intrigued by the place, it seemed so mysterious to me at the time. We called it the Monster House. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Question/opinion...
I model the CASO, 1953. I always wondered why photos of the 1290 or 1291, {locomotives} and their trains never had many tank cars on their consists when either leaving or returning to St. Thomas...? The odd tank car that would be on the train was, in my opinion, a tank car load destined for one of the fuel dealers on the branch, or an empty returning from said dealers. Over the years, through reasoning and analytical thinking, I have come to the conclusion that MOST of the tank car freight was carried out on the Oil Springs/Petrolia to Courtright end of the branch.
The operations would have to be something like the following:
Assigned service tank cars would shuttle back and forth between Petrolia and Oil Springs...empties being taken to Oil Springs to be filled with the rather poor quality oil from those oil fields and returned to Petrolia, loaded with the high sulphur crude. At Petrolia they would do a "first stage refining" in that the oil would be pumped into clay settling pits, then pumped into the agitators and refining buildings for a rudimentary, preliminary refining, removing mud, dirt, sludge, paraffin and certain other rudimentary useful products. That would explain why these refineries were in Petrolia and operated until 1952 or so. Then THESE assigned service tank cars would return to Oil Springs for re-filling. This function would be repeated over and over.
THEN, at Petrolia, this residual, first stage refined oil would be re-loaded into other assigned service tank cars and be shuttled away to Courtright Junction to be interchanged with the C. & O. Then shipped to Sarnia, where the final, high end refining would take place. Then the empties would be shuttled back to Courtright and the CASO wold return the empties to Petrolia. This routine would be repeated over and over again. I can't PROVE this theory, but from all the photos I have seen with trains with 8 to 10 tank cars in the consist running between Courtright and Petrolia, this MUST HAVE BEEN THE CASE. It would certainly explain the lack of tank cars in the consists leaving and returning to St. Thomas. Deductive reasoning...{?} LOL
The feature I love about this theory is, in my case, it allows me to have a miss-matched bunch of old, funky worn out tank cars with both arch bar and Fox pressed steel trucks, as these cars would never be interchanged and would never leave the branch. They'd just plod along on their daily duties, but their variety adds a great deal of PLAUSIBLE interest to the branch operations.
Any one know whether this theory has merit, or do I have it all wrong? Amboyduke

My boyfriend and his friends have been telling this story for years about this haunted mandaumin farmhouse and I finally decided to see what info I could find online about it and this thread is the only thing I could find. He said about 10 years ago him and 3 other guys decided to check the house out because they heard it was haunted. They went in the middle of a bright sunny day and started exploring the grounds when suddenly this old man just came out of nowhere. They started asking him about the history of the house and why people come there and he said something like “I have no idea why people come here, house just isn’t worth fixin.” And he kept denying that it was haunted. They started looking around some more and my boyfriend turned around to ask the man one more question but he had just disappeared. He swears there was no where for him to have hidden and disappeared to that fast (he had only turned around for a couple seconds). The creepy thing was that all 4 of them said the man was all grey. Grey skin, grey plaid shirt with grey overalls and grey hat. He was even carrying a pitchfork.

Hi all My name is George Couckuyt. I'm mostly interested in northern Lambton County (Bozanquet twp.) I am a third-generation resident. My grandfather purchased the property I currently own from The Canada Company in 1943 and worked for the Department of Lands and Forests in what is now Pinery Park. He laid out many of the roads and camping areas starting in 1956. I look forward to being a member of this group.

John Goodison was my Great Great Grandfather . I was born in Sarnia in 1951 . My mother was Margery ( nee Goodison ) Lorriman. I will be in the Sarnia area this August 2019. Other than the Lambton Heritage Museum, where can I find relics or history of my family history ? I also know that the original company office building is now a residence on Essex Street. My Grandmother lived in what is now a funeral home on George Street. Stuart Lorriman audiorep@ns.sympatico.ca Nova Scotia

I live around the corner from that house.I can see it from my backyard. The owner lives across the street in the Little white house. His sons live on each side and take care of the land around it. When the boys moved out it was to much upkeep for him.

I just found that my cousins emigrated from Warminster Wiltshire to Warwick. Caroline thingyhingy with husband Edwin Parker in 1855. Then in 1870 Charles and Elizabeth thingyhingy and family, then in 1891 I think brother Albert & Bessie thingyhingy arrived in Warwick with children. I live in Kingsville Ontario, and have been doing family history research for many years. I have the thingyhingy ancestors going back many years. Great site. It keeps changing the name CUNthingy.

Steve - not sure how to contact you - but I have not forgotten about the bridge over what was called Bear Creek. I am still working on the model, but have run into problems trying to make the girders for the towers. Nobody makes them in the size I need. From the only other photo of the bridge that was found, I have got a really good estimate of the size of the lattice girders made by the Hamilton Bridge company for the towers. I have contacted a 3d printing company and they need a good drawing of the girders to work from. I tried drawing by hand, but apparently not good enough. I remember that you suggested using Sketchup. Can you contact me about using this program to make a plan for the 3d company so I can get on with the bridge. I have the base done and landscaped, the river made, all the abutments and piers complete and the girders and trackwork made - I just need to build the towers. You can contact me at jgriffin@bmts.com

Thanks so much for all of the hard work of the Administrators....my husband is Jim Welshinski and his Mother was Betty Glass, our children Derek and Sean Welshinski are descendants of Mayor Henry Glass. I never knew that there was a house or a location that was known to be his. I wish there was a picture of the old homestead. I have been to City Hall where his picture hangs and have had his information printed out and a copy of his picture for our kids.
