For those of you who aren't too familiar with the ProBoards forum format, here's a quick tutorial on the different parts of the forum and how it's structured. The different parts of the forum are listed below in their hierarchical order, from the highest: Forum, down to Post: - "Forum" - the entire Lost Lambton, Found! site. The forum has a main, or home page from where you navigate to all other parts of the site.
- "Categories" - are major headings on the home page. Category headings aren't clickable, they just help organize the forum into its main subject headings.
- "Boards" - are the clickable links to the main discussion areas. Each board can contain sub-boards or topics (threads).
- "Topics" - are also referred to as threads. Threads can be started by any forum member by clicking "new thread" at the top right of any board page.
- "Posts" - are the individual messages you post within topics, either as a new thread, or as a reply to an earlier post. You can make a post by clicking "reply" at the top right of the thread, or by clicking "quote" at the top right of each post. Besides formatted text, posts can contain images, links, attachments, tables, embedded video, etc. You can also edit your posts using the "modify" link, or "delete" your own posts when you're logged in.
I hope this helps new users make the most of the forum! Now, please read the following posts on setting up your forum notifications... Thanks and welcome to Lost Lambton, Found!

One of the things that's always bugged me about Proboards forums is that it's not readily apparent that you can get notification via e-mail when someone posts to a thread. This meant if you didn't check the forum regularly, you risked missing posts, or not seeing them until long after they were made. Well, it turns out you can set up notification, it's just a bit convoluted. So, I'll explain it here, so you can take advantage of the feature and never miss another post to your favourite thread... Bookmarking topics and setting notification1) When your reading, or posting, in a thread and you'd like notification when someone replies to it, scroll down to the bottom of the thread. On the lower left corner of the final post, you will see a link labelled "bookmark". Click on it and the page will reload, with the link now changed into "remove bookmark". Do this for each thread you'd like to follow. 2) Once you've bookmarked all the threads you want to keep up with, you need to set up your notification preferences. Go to this link: lostlambton.proboards.com/?action=managebookmarks
The page that pops up when you click on the above link will allow you to manage your bookmarks and set your notification preferences for each bookmark. But, I recommend choosing the default setting that all bookmarks will get e-mail notification.
That's all there is to it! You will now receive an e-mail (or PM, if you choose that option) whenever someone posts a new reply to any existing thread that you have bookmarked!
Unfortunately, with the current iteration of Proboards, bookmarking is only available for existing threads, not newly created ones, or the forum as a whole. This means you can't get a notification if someone starts a new thread; you just have to find it and bookmark it, after it's started (which is annoying). So, if you want to receive notifications whenever someone posts something new to the forum, regardless of the topic, you'll have to bookmark every thread you're interested in and still visit occasionally to check for new threads.
As a workaround to this shortcoming, I've created the "Update" thread, that you can bookmark. I'll try and keep it up-to-date when new threads are started...)
So, give it a try and see how it works for you and if you have any questions, just ask here, or PM me...

This forum allows you to receive Private Messages (PM) from other forum members. Your PM's are shown in the notification at the top right of the forum home page, beside the Lost Lambton, Found! logo. From time to time, I'd like to be able to message all members with updates, news, events, etc. I can send a PM to all members at once, but I need you folks to set your PM preferences to receive an e-mail notification when I do, so that you get my message in a timely fashion. If you're interested in this feature: -Click on this link: lostlambton.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=pmprefs-Choose "Yes" in both Notification drop menus. -Click the Save Preferences button. You will now be sure to get an e-mail notification whenever I send you a PM and a pop-up whenever you're logged into L.L.F. and you get a PM! Thanks!
