[/url]key map page. If you need to find locations based on the original surveys of lots and concessions of Lambton and other Ontario counties, this is your best online resource. On each county overview map page, you can click on any township within the county map to move to a new map of that township. Then, you can choose to view a HUGE enlargement of this township map, originally printed in the county atlases produced by Belden, etc. in the 1870's. Also, if you go to the search page here, you can search for people who's name appeared on their lot, on the original maps. [/li][li] Lambton County Names and Places is a book published by the Lambton County Council in 1925 and is a great resource for finding all those obscure place names we come across in our research. This copy is hosted on Our Roots, which holds an amazing collection of historical Canadian books. [/li][li] Lambton County's Hundred Years, 1849 - 1949 by Victor Lauriston was published to commemorate Lambton County's centennial. Another Our Roots hosted book and an excellent resource for local historians. [/li][li] Fire Insurance Plans (FIP) online at Library and Archives Canada is a link to the Ontario list of maps. Scan alphabetically for Lambton communities. [/li][/ul]

From the Toronto Daily Mail of December 1st, 1888 a multi-page feature article on Lambton's oil region. Well known to historians, this article is a very extensive contemporary look at what was then the most important oil region in Canada, with descriptions of the oil lands, profiles of the major players and lots of illustrations. Toronto Daily Mail - December 1st, 1888 - "The Oil Belt"

Fire Insurance Plans (FIP) for several Lambton communities are available online from Library and Archives Canada. I've compiled a list of currently available Lambton FIPs here.
